Calgary Stampede is a festival that starts from the first Friday to the second Sunday of July. It was federally funded Dominion Exhibition originally. In 1908, Calgary held a lavish parade as well as rodeo, horse racing, and trick roping competitions as part of the event. The exhibition was a success, drawing 100,000 people to the fairgrounds over seven days despite an economic recession that afflicted the city of 25,000. Attendance grew annually, more and more people came to join this festival, dressed in western clothes and decorate their businesses in the spirit of the "wild west". People of all walks of life, from executives to students, discard formal attire for casual western dress, typically represented by Wrangler jeans and cowboy hats.Each year, more than one million guests from around the world come to Calgary to experience the heart-pounding action of the world’s largest outdoor rodeo, featuring bull riding, barrel racing and more. The Calgary Stampede is also one of Canada’s largest music festivals, with five stages and 300 performers, including a slate of international music headliners.
